Hip-Hop For Strings (In G Major).

I am all for culture and crossover when it comes to art and music. It is great to have some musical experimentation going on; and without it no new styles would ever be born. Until today, I thought that one of the best Classical/Dance examples was probably DJ Tiesto’s version of Albinoni’s ‘Adagio for Strings’. However, that was before I stumbled across this major cultural contender…
You wouldn’t think a couple of Korean break-dancers, a record scratcher and a beatbox guy could do anything very much with Pachelbel’s Canon, would you? Well, you might just be surprised. Check out this awesome dance video and see if your bottom jaw can maintain its original position!
Don’t you just love the way they have interpreted the original piece? This really is impressive stuff and the best thing about it all is that it will inspire a lot of the hip-hop kids to check out some Classical vibes.
These dancers are totally amazing; can you imagine how strong these guys must be? If I could choose a skill, then break-dancing would probably be very high on my list (the ability to dance at all would be an added bonus!).
A lot of young people dismiss Classical music as being crusty, uncool and irrelevant. This is a terrible shame, but stuff like this is helping to change all of that. There have also been a number of interesting projects with Classical and Heavy Metal over the years, such as Metallica’s ‘S and M’ and their support group/buddies Apocalyptica.
