Have A Peep Through The ‘100th Window’.

Within the genre of Trip-Hop, there are several sub-categories. Bearing in mind that the Trip-Hop sound came from a variety of different places, it is not surprising to know that some bands kept their sound focused on one particular area of influence. Some of these bands leaned more toward the Hip-Hop vibe whilst others had a far more Trippy feel.
Many of Portishead’s songs have a very ‘retro TV crime show’ feel and Morcheeba tended to concentrate their talents on a more Pop/Jazz sound. Other bands were more transient in their music; continuing to experiment with different things… Massive Attack tried their hand at several different styles. Just about each of their albums has its own unique appeal. For me, the best thing they ever did was, ‘100th Window’, their fourth studio recording.
The overall feel of this record is pretty dark and Trippy. Think about twisting, turning and floating through outer space and you have an idea of its sound. 3D’s vocals on many of the tracks are husky and whispered, giving you a feeling of detachment and coldness. This is balanced by the inclusion of Sinead O’Connor on three songs. She offers a feeling of the spiritual and the unknown, especially on, ‘A Prayer for England’.
If you are a fan of Trip-Hop then it is well worth having a listen to this album. It is a hundred miles away from the likes of Alphawezen or Goldfrapp, but it is still most certainly Trip-Hop. And if you enjoy music that is Spacey, Minimalistic or Ambient then this might just be the best way for you to start your very own investigation of this unusual genre…
‘100th Window’ is a thoroughly atmospheric album and it is also very relaxing. You could almost describe it as being background music designed for the foreground.
Exciting news, the skiing in italy bookings for our trip next year have been sorted. I need part of the payment by this weekend. I can just see my face not as i’m coming down the slope like a bad batch Botox.
